Plot Summary
“Mere Husband Ki Biwi” is a romantic comedy that revolves around the life of Ankur Chadha (Arjun Kapoor), a real estate broker who is recovering from a messy marriage with journalist Prabhleen Dhillon (Bhumi Pednekar). Just as he starts to move on with his life and finds new love in physiotherapist Antara Khanna (Rakul Preet Singh), his past comes back to haunt him when Prabhleen returns with retrograde amnesia.
Performances
Arjun Kapoor delivers a robust performance as Ankur, a character caught between two women. His portrayal of a man trying to navigate the complexities of love and relationships is commendable. Bhumi Pednekar, known for her strong performances, brings intensity to her role as Prabhleen, although her character sometimes feels one-dimensional. Rakul Preet Singh shines as Antara, adding a refreshing touch to the film with her refined demeanor.
Harsh Gujral, a stand-up comic making his debut, provides comic relief with his one-liners and energetic performance. The supporting cast, including Shakti Kapoor and Kanwaljeet Singh, add depth to the film.
Direction and Screenplay
Mudassar Aziz, known for his work in romantic comedies, attempts to bring a fresh perspective to the genre. While the film has its moments of humor and charm, it struggles to maintain a consistent narrative tempo. The screenplay becomes repetitive, and the plot points involving amnesia and seduction feel clichéd.
Music and Cinematography
The film’s music and songs are engaging and complement the storyline. The cinematography captures the essence of the characters’ emotions and the vibrant settings of the film.
Verdict
“Mere Husband Ki Biwi” is a mixed bag. While it has its moments of humor and strong performances, it falls short in terms of narrative consistency and originality. Fans of romantic comedies may find it entertaining, but it may not leave a lasting impression.
