The film “Meg 2: The Trench” commences in the Cretaceous Period, showcasing a predatory ecosystem where various creatures hunt smaller animals. A T-Rex is depicted pursuing a group of small yet lethal dinosaur predators known as Snappers. In a dramatic turn, a Megalodon emerges from the depths, seizing the T-Rex and dragging its lifeless body beneath the waves.

Transitioning to contemporary times, the narrative follows Jonas Taylor, portrayed by Jason Statham, as he emerges from a shipping container aboard a vessel navigating the Philippine Sea. His mission is to thwart a group of individuals engaged in the illegal disposal of toxic waste into the ocean. After gathering crucial intelligence, he confronts the assailants, subsequently leaping into the water where he is rescued by Mac (Cliff Curtis) and Rigas (Melissanthi Mahut) via helicopter.

In a marine research facility in China, Jiuming Zhang (Wu Jing) is seen testing an exo-suit designed for underwater operations. He is the uncle of Meiying (Sophia Cai) and the brother of the recently deceased Suyin, with Jonas now assuming a guardian role for Meiying. During an event hosted by Jiuming’s business associate Hilary Driscoll (Sienna Guillory), Jiuming honors the memory of Suyin and their father, pledging to advance oceanic research in their name. He introduces Haiqi, a captured Megalodon that seemingly responds to his commands. Concurrently, Jonas becomes aware of a suspicious individual named Montes (Serigo Peris-Mencheta) observing him during the event.
