SYNOPSIS of Wicked:
The film “Wicked” draws inspiration from the acclaimed Broadway musical of the same name, which itself is based on Gregory Maguire’s 1995 novel, “Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch.”
Similar to the stage production, with music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz and a book by Winnie Holzman, the movie follows the intertwined lives of Elphaba and Glinda, the latter often referred to as Galinda (portrayed by Ariana Grande, who brings a vibrant energy). The narrative begins with the demise of Elphaba, known as the Wicked Witch of the West, with Dorothy absent from the scene. Glinda, also known as Glinda the Good, makes her entrance with the memorable song “No One Mourns the Wicked,” leading into a reflective journey that recounts her friendship with Elphaba during their time at Shiz University, a lively campus featuring a picturesque, castle-like structure reminiscent of Disney.
The “Wicked” film is scheduled to be available on various streaming services, including Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, Fandango at Home (previously Vudu), Comcast Xfinity, Cox, and Microsoft Movies & TV, starting Tuesday, December 31. Additionally, it will be released on 4K UHD, Blu-ray™, and DVD on February 4, 2025.
